Founding story from Within Sight owner/director Candace Fanale:

A few years ago, I was looking for a second part-time job to supplement my income after graduate school and post-doc were finally over. I was finally licensed and wanted a position where I could really have some ownership of the services that I was offering to others and have more of a work-life balance. I found several positions that either required too many hours from me or paid too little for me to justify sacrificing that time. I had a colleague who showed me the ropes of private practice and rented an office to me for a negligible cost. I started to panel with insurance companies and take very low sliding scale clients. In 6 months I had 15 patients and considered myself full.

“Why not hire psychologists who also want part-time jobs to supplement income?” I thought. And a group practice was born.

How our practice works

We are different from other practices in that we value the quality of the employee’s experience just as much as the client’s. I am constantly updating our “systems” processes in order to further reduce the administrative burden on the clinician.

I ask each clinician during their interview about what their goals are for their caseload and their involvement in private practice. Based on their goals and independence level, I have several different ‘tracks’ that I place them in.

Employee Track: Within Sight does your billing and covers business and advertising expenses. Ideal for someone who does not want to learn about taxes, being a business owner, or anything of that sort. Complete focus on patient care. Joint decisions about schedules and insurance panels. Minimum caseload 8.

Independent Track: Within Sight does your billing and covers cost of EHR and email service. Advertising expenses are not covered. You manage your own schedule. You choose which insurance you want to be paneled with. Ideal for someone who can work independently is comfortable with being a sole proprietor/IC and does not require the structure of being an employee. Only available to doctoral-level clinicians. Minimum caseload 5.

PP Startup Track: Learn as you go to launch on your own. We collaborate to develop a plan for your caseload and your job duties are based on your specific needs. You will learn: how insurance works, ins and outs of how to use all the features in an electronic health record to run a practice, advertising techniques, billing (in and out of network), etc. We ask for a 1-year commitment to learn all of this and have the confidence and plan to launch on your own. This is a W2 employee position. Minimum caseload 10.

We ask for a cover letter, resume, and 3 references.
